I had this idea about a fudge dice once (If you don’t know them, it’s a six-sided die with two faces marked +, two other marked – and two unmarked, used on Fudge and Fate RPGs). The dashes on the faces would stretch around the corners, fusing toghether. I tried to paint a prototype, but wouldn’t know what to make of it. Then, I saw this beautiful dice on kickstarter:
It was my idea, only better, with a very clever design for a numeric regular die and also a Fudge one. I pledged immediately! But it’s price tag makes it a little dice extravaganza, so I stuck to a single pair. Then I got wondering if I should take the regular or the fudge version that reminded my own prototype… And then I asked myself how cool would that be if it were possible to merge these two dice into a single design. That would make some very versatile dice!
It was one of those ideas that prevents me from sleeping, so I started sketching what ended up something really cool looking dice!
As you can see, it follows that fusing dashes concept, except the markings can be read both as numbers and as plus, minus, and blanks like a fudge dice. The minuses are the 1 and the 4, the pluses are the 2 and the 5, and the 3 and the 6 doubles as blanks. Can you see it? Here’s the unfolding:
